I don't follow the show, but I watched these and the first word that sprang to mind was "mythic". There's Story screaming through the set like a force of nature. I don't know if the show is that compelling, or how much of it is you distilling and elevating the material (I have my suspicions), but I found the result really damned effective. Thrilling.

Awwww boys :( It's so heartbreaking seeing all the pain they have to go through and how much they love each other and yet the distance between them...I love all the hell imagery in Dean's vid and the red flashes were so cool. What stuck me is when Dean turns in the field and there's the zoom away to the destruction. And I love that end shot with both of them sitting together and Sam talking in the background while Dean is hurting. Oh, Dean. Love seeing Sam's side of things and what got to me most was when he had to see Dean getting killed by the car and everything and then when Dean actually did it made me cry :( Wonderful job and thanks for making both!

Ooo, *nice*. I love how the music *feels* different with each boy's story/POV. To me, Dean's vid feels almost elegiac, as if Dean's mourning who he was before Hell, and floundering to recapture his sense of self now that he's back; whereas Sam's vid feels...unapologetic, as if he knows he's changed because of everything he's gone through, but he refuses to do anything but focus on making himself-in-the-now *work*. I've no idea if that's what you were going for, but that's what I've got. *g* I like 'em!

Amazing work. I love the fact these vids come as a pair, and, IMHO, there should be some way to make sure they're NEVER separated (like Sam and Dean) because they're so much more effective when viewed together. I love how the visual medium can be used like filtering in fiction to show the same events through different eyes. So clever!

I adore the fact you chose to repeat some of the clips for the same segments in each of the vids. Sam's death in particular as it was the jumping off point for the S3/S4 arcs your vids centered on.

Also, I love the segment during the bridge in Sam's vid. Appropriate that it was the "alternate reality" of MS to match the musical difference between the two vids.

Thank you so much! And thank you for the rec. I wanted each vid to stand on its own, and I believe that they do, but when you put them together, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. A big part of the fun for me was to tack the two vids together by using the same (visual) situations/stress points (Dad's secret, Dad's death, Sam's death and resurrection, Dean's death and resurrection, the boys' disconnect...), and then I could show the external forces influencing the stress points.

Even though I tried really hard to articulate the above just now (LOL), I was almost totally right-brained on both of these. I just stepped out of analytical self and into the flow, which is where I love to be.

Also, thank you so much for noticing the placement of MS. I choose all of my clips very deliberately in a vid because I only have so much time to get the point across, and the *relentless* bridge served perfectly for Sam's alternate reality--which was *real*.

OMG. First of all, the song is very pretty. Second, OMG. How you created two vids from each brother's perspective with the same song, how you used the same scenes but with different angles and cuts that you created two different perspectives. Seriously. Using the same song to underline the brother's new pain and blame and distrust of one another, the guilt that Dean is attempting to lay on Sam and the huge amount of guilt Sam already carries that he put all on himself. How you've managed to underline exactly how much they've sacrificed for one another over the years and how it makes neither of them comfortable with who or what they've become. How they just need and want each other to be family and brothers, but aren't sure how to get back to that place, or even if they can.

Okay. Shutting up now. Especially if all that wasn't what you had in mind.

Underlying much of their situation is that they're being used by forces beyond their control (like many of us, I guess),and they're floundering--both basically good, even heroic, and they're practically impotent. EEEEEEE, I kind of just want to roll around in both of these for a while. Sam and Dean are both so fucked up I don't even know how they're still standing. THEY NEED TO FIX EACH OTHER RIGHT NOW.

I love that the vids allow for comparison between the ways they're each broken. How both Sam and Dean have said the other can't understand what they're going through, and I suppose that's true, what with Sam's powers and Dean remembering hell. But then there's also this other pain that's completely about one brother losing the other.

I adore how both vids showed how Sam and Dean tried to deal with that the same way, by making a deal, yet only Dean was successful. Sam being unable to trade himself for Dean shows the divergence between them. Sam can't succeed because of what he is and all the destiny stuff and plans that he's a part of (all the stuff having to do with his powers that Dean can't understand) and because he can't succeed, Dean stays in hell for four months (experiencing things that Sam can't understand).

Ok, I don't know if that made sense, but it seemed like a really cool parallel I'm seeing as I'm watching these late at night, when I should be sleeping. *g*

Wow. I really love these. You have such a gift for vidding -- I enjoy all of your work -- but these strike such an interesting chord, being two perspectives on the same thing. As a whole it really highlights what's changed between Sam and Dean, and what effect the deal has had on their relationship. It's palpable in the show these days that they aren't the same characters we knew in the first two seasons, and I really love how this starts to unpack that, examining how their reactions to these same events drove such wedges between them. The shot at the end of Sam's where he sees his reflection in the passenger window is so evocative in this context -- the disconnect between the two of them, and even within themselves. Awesome work!

Thank you for the compliment. That's the thing, you know? The same things are happening to them, bottom line. Dean may have sacrificed it all for Sam, but for what? Was that sacrifice the tipping point for Sam's destiny? Dean's sacrificed everything, but in doing that? Sam LOST everything.

I'm so glad you noticed Sam's reflection at the end! The last clip of the Dean vid is also Dean looking into a mirror--gazing into the abyss.

I really love these two vids and I love to see what everyone has gotten out of them-- you have really made some great art when it refuses to be captured easily or at all... I think it's great that you made two vids to the same song -- it's very much SPN to have the two divergent yet parallel experiences of samndean. It's part of what makes our Show so enjoyable and so artistically stimulating!

I especially like your editing of Dean's time in Hell -- the way you protract it. Also, I really love the moment when Castiel strides in so inexorably and when he spreads his wings it's so MENACING. So I come away with Dean's suffering and his feeling of helplessness at being caught up in the grip of something so powerful, that has cost him SO MUCH, and how he started out just wanting to keep Sam alive and safe and now there's so much more he has to worry about.

I love your Sam vid too, and what I come away with is Sam's desperate, longing gaze, continually trained on Dean. His love for Dean as his big brother, and his desperation to do something to help Dean out of the Deal, and now, out of his excruciating guilt over his time in Hell, --Sam seems to feel so helpless, and everything he CAN do is stuff that seems to make Dean feel even worse. wow.

I'm so glad you noticed the Dean-in-hell clips. I tried to make them "feel" eternal, and I guess it worked. There's Dean, knowing his eternal future, and he has nowhere to go until Castiel holds him tight and raises him from perdition. And boy howdy! Did *that* open up a whole new can of worms.
