From the sublime to the ridiculous - New Vid - 300
Happy Birthday Vividcon! No better way to celebrate than to flood fandom with vids. Thank you to my tireless beta elynross and my Mad Fold-in Friends for their input and encouragement.
This was my offering to Club Vivid. Considering the discussion going on right now, I believe that this is a vid whose time has come.
Bite me, Frank Miller Vogue Song by: Madonna Fandom: 300
Well, if THAT isn't the most gorgeous thing I ever saw. I barely made it through the flick, but I'm glad I saw it, because now I really appreciate your VID so much more!
I have this mental image of the vids being a million little claws clambering out of a metal box. You just know they're going to wreck havoc. Somewhere. Somehow. I'm just happy to be a claw.
The very first thing I did when I got home was show my (fabulously gay) roommate, who saw 300 with me in the theater, this vid. Because it is genius, and so are you. It still blows my mind. The concept, the color work, the framing, the motion, everything. If I ever make a vid half this smart in my life, I'll die a most happy and accomplished man.
(And as a sidenote, it was so wonderful meeting you! You are fantastic. *smooshes you*)
I started to ramble, so I'm going to ramble at you in email instead. But in brief: awesome vid. I just want to roll around in this vid for a while like a pig in mud, in hopes that I'll absorb some of its awesomeness via vid osmosis. *g*
Answer (and feedback) on its way. I've been sort of overwhelmed since I got home. Work is making my hands fall off. Thank you! I'm glad you liked Vogue.
This vid pretty much shorts out my brain; I can't decide whether to watch the color, watch the motion, try to figure out how you did the track matte thing, or jump up and down with glee about the song choice. Thus far I have mostly ended up grinning like a lunatic.
I really, really love your brain.
In conclusion, female gaze + stylistic crap = WIN.
Thank you. I agree about Frank Miller. I wanted to use Sin City, but I couldn't seem to fetishize the Clive Owen's tennis shoes any more than they already had.
BEHOLD! The female gaze triumphant. Oh my God, I started guffawing at 0:38 and didn't really stop. I mean, of course the tricks with color and pacing were amazing and beautiful and awe-inspiring, but -- yes. The female gaze runs *riot* here, as it needed to. Oh, Mr. Miller. He can do whatever the fuck he wants if it means that people like you will respond this way. JOY.
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Let's just back away from Leonidas staring mournfully into the distance, shall we? And go on from there. LOL Thank you for watching.
I do love that movie. I can't help it. It's just so pretty to watch. My god, those bodies...*happy sigh* :)
Your vid is really stunning. I don't know a thing about making them or the technical parts of it, but I know enough to see that is some fatastic work you did. Really damn good.
I'm sure I'll need to go back and watch several times (for the nekkid *koff* various aesthetics, of course), but MAN, your choreography and use of movement blew me away this first time around. Fabulous.
Thank you. I saw the film with my daughter, and we thought it was wonderful to behold and *hilariously funny*. The slow-motion fights? Screamed "Vogue-vogue-vogue-vogue."
That was utterly fantastic. And not just Frank Miller needed biting. A certain men's magazine in this country (one of the ones dedicated to *coff* "fitness and health") declined to hire a designer colleague of mine some years ago because "we're not a gay magazine". This same magazine ran a "300 workout" recently.
I feel very far from being a genius, but I'm so glad you liked it. I just wanted to take advantage of the perfect opportunity to beat a homophobe over the head with his very own creation. Now *that's* fun.
