Or, The Cup of Perpetual Torment just served to bring it all up to the surface.

elynross for betaing and listening to me go on and on, and finally buying it. Thank you,
absolutedestiny, for the context-free viewing and criticism. I appreciate your comments very much. Also, much thanks to my friends who cheered me on. Y'all know who you are, and I love you guys.
I was thinking of dedicating this vid to any number of Angel/Spike fans (you know who you are!), but I think? This one is for me. :) With love. [dies laughing]
Feedback is always appreciated!

I'm surprised at just how hard a focus you were able to place on their...interaction? The thing that isn't either of them singly, but seems to exist independent of what they want? Ok, that makes no sense. Uhm, that thing that makes them Spike and Angel. ::gestures helplessly::
I think you focused on it by crossing out, metaphorically, all of the other aspects. Dru, Buffy, the cup, and not focusing on who they were other than defined by their interactions. It's very cool. It's like putting the spotlight on their energy, rather than them.
It's at about the minute mark when the first chorus comes in that the intent (or what I'm reading as it) really starts to unfurl for me. And then it kicks up another level when Spike crashes into Angel by the cup, and again with the wire and knight-fight.
I'm really going to have to sit and let the implications of those chorus lines roll around in my head for a while. They're so clearly stuck with each other regardless of whatever they've *ever* wanted.
And "dissatisfied" on Angel in bed, and the sequence with Spike raising his hand were a couple of my favorite special moments. :)
That's exactly what I did. No matter where they go, there they are, and they have to deal. That clip of Spike tackling Angel? I was *so* pleased with that. :)

Instant pick-me-ups --- they simply kick.ass.
I'm not much for the Angel/Spike pairing but I'm able to see it, the complexity of it. And I think your vid caught it, in all it's glory.
But then, I'm just a fangirl who adores your vids. You do the same with images and music that I attempt with words. You put certain actions and facial expressions that were captured on film to the music with just the right touch.
For example, the first image in your Putting Out Fire vid. The creepy music starts out with an image of the Wolfram & Hart sign, then segues into Angel's expression turning from mr. drunk guy to serious in City of. It's perfect. And I've seen you do it time and again.
I think you still have a lot to say about Spike and Angel. And I want to see/hear more. This vid was just amazing. I watched it three times.
I loved the way you caught how they connect, no matter what, they connect and are connected. Entwined with one another.
I never imagined Spangel until just a month ago or so, but you are so illustrating Spangel.
I kept watching over and over for that moment in which they seemed to have touched hands and always just barely caught it. I think that was part of what you intended. To just barely catch it. Just as they just barely catch it. That they touch, deeply, but both want to deny it, but still they touch. Deeply.
They are part and each of one another. And your vid catches that connection.
Damn. I have no Buffy or Angel icons. Damn. I'm such an HL girl, but I so love Buffy and Angel. As seemingly so do you. Thank you, Lum. This was a brilliant vid.
I loved it, it's awesome, of course, everything from you is. I adore the tug and pull of the Spike/Angel dynamic, and you captured it to perfection. So pretty!
Isn't that just the crux of it all? No matter what they have, what they want, its just not enough. Never will be. And the both KNOW it. Dissatisfied as humans. Dissatisfied as vampires. Poor bastards. Don't we just love them so?
And the cup falling on the discordant feedback? perfect.
Stop looking through scrapbooks and photograph albums
For all our boys long history, it's the prospect of the future that makes the 'ship work for me. Unlike the their respective relationships with Buffy, there's not this cloud of a doomed end that hangs over them. She was mortal and both their moral compasses for time, which could only end badly, I think. Where as Spike and Angel have already seen each other at their worst, and haven't managed to kill each other yet. Maybe if they look to their better natures, and common ground, it can only get better from here?
Thanks for the vid. You capture so many little moments perfectly.
Yes! I don't begrudge either one of them for Buffy, but when she's gone, they still have each other. Same for Wes.
Thank you for watching and letting me know you liked it. [squee!!]
I do like me some S/A vids that compress all the sex/violence/sex, but I really appreciated how this vid really seem to let the connection between them breathe if that makes sense. Because just as the rhythmn goes between past and present (I really liked the almost matching positions on those moments, btw, when, for example, William lunged forward into being Spike), there are also these beats in between. Which is just like their relationship--they go off and do separate things but come back together and are ultimately always connected.
And Jesus H. Christ, "Destiny" is a good ep. Um, yeah.
I totally get what you're saying. I love the dance of violence, too. A lot. And I love to vid it. But I also love trying to show the near-connections that seem to catalyze the violence.
I was *so pleased* with the timing of that. Thanks for noticing. :)
My favorite part is towards the end, where you use the hand-holding scene in "A Hole in the World"; the way you had Angel and Spike jump apart the moment their hand touch really hit a part of me and made me think about their relationship. The moment is beautiful and it fits the underlining theme perfectly. ♥
My only issue was with you using too many scenes from "Destiny", but the way you cut and weave together each scene so that it became something different, instead of just a repeat of the episode set to lyrics is amazing. (And kudos to you for not using the Angelus/Spike kiss in "Innocence".)
I wish that wasn't an issue for you, because the vid is *about* that episode and why they reached that point and where they went from it. However, thank you so much for your feedback. I appreciate it!
**Icon love**
Right now I'm still pretty speechless. It is perfect. The music, the clips, the way you moved them all together like they were meant to be. Like it was supposed to be. Like it was.
Thank you so much, Lum. For working so hard on this and every vid you make, and for sharing your incredible talent with us.
Now. I need to go rewatch it a
thousandfew more times.:)

They can't teach you what you don't already know.
You make me miss them, so much. Damn. I loved the angles and blocking and how carefully they transistioned. Spike all growed up, but no one can teach him the things he already knew.
we were innocents too once upon a time
<3 So good.
You noticed my blocking! yay!! Thank you.
My favourite parts are the two bits where the music kicks in after a brief lull: Spike tackling Angel at 1:41 and Angel turning his head at 2:47. Oh, and also the cup rolling down in slow-mo as that beepy noise comes in at 2:20. That's just nifty. And maybe I'm just weird and fixated on detail, but I love Angel's little hand movement right before the cut at 2:42. :D My favourite thing, though, was how the composition had such a sense of symmetry to it. That was fabulous.
I'm so glad you noticed little things like the movement of Angel's hand. I can't discount those things when I'm laying out a vid. They're internal movement, and can be just as important (and obvious, but usually on a subconscious level) as the big drag-queen moves the they do. :)
It's so hard to try and pick favorite parts, but I liked the cutting back & forth between them as Spike walks over and drinks from the cup, the little side glances on "I know that that's not enough", and the pause when they hold hands.
They *are* intimate. All the time. That's what I dig about them, man! hee
But by INTENTIONALLY fragmenting the chronology, you make that impossible. And that forces me to just ... watch them interact.
It's a thing of beauty.
